Supporting The Art Community in Tengenenge, Zimbabwe
Robert Murengwa was born on the 25 December 1973 nearby Guruve. Already during his schooling he started sculpting in his spare time. However it was only in 2000 that sculpting became his living when he moved to Tengenenge to work as an assistant for Bernard Matemera. In 2005 he became employed as a security guard at Tengenenge Gallery and before the end of the year 2006, he promoted to be a salesman. Since 2011, he is part of the management team of Tengenenge.
Blessed Kaweka was born on the 23rd of June 1970 in Murewa. From 1987 to 200 he worked at the Chapungu schulpture park in Harare with in-between employments at the Matombo Gallery and the Ramambo Gallery. From 2000 onwards Blessed was working overseas in different galleries, curating and selling in exhibitions, in particularly in the Netherlands and in Germany. In 2006 he started employment as a sales manager at the Ambassador Gallery in Harare. Since 2008 he works as a salesman in Tengenenge.
Cosmas Chifamba (Salesman)
Cosmas Chifamba was born on the 10th of July 1976 in Mudindo. Having made wire toys as a child, he started stone sculpting in 1990, inspired by his brother Ephraim. At first he was sculpting in his spare time but decided to look for other forms of employment ones he completed school. In 2002, he decided to start sculpting again but only became a full time sculptor in 2004 joining the local Sangabayu Art Gallery as a resident artist. Later in mid 2004 he joined Tengenenge sculpting community. Since 2011 he is active as a salesman in Tengenenge.
Augustine was born on the 3rd of December 1984. He came in touch with sculpting in 2004 when he visited his aunt that stayed at Tengenenge. In the art community he became friends with the artists and was encouraged to start sculpting himself. Augustine still decided to complete his A-level first but continued sculpting in his spare time, supplementing his income in this way. The year after he moved to Tengenenge where he became a full time sculptor. In 2006 he became promoted to the administration team and is since then active as pay master.
Gift Bangura (Sales Manager)
Gift Bangura is born on the 2nd of June 1968. He started stone sculpting when he was at primary school under the influence of his grandfather Henry Munyaradzi. In 1980 he sold his sculptures to the national Gallery in Harare and moved 1987 to Tengenenge where he has remained as a full- time Sculptor since. In 2011 he got further promoted as a sales manager.
